Sedgefield Ball Game
The Sedgefield Ball Game is a traditional annual street football and handball event held in the village of Sedgefield, County Durham, England, typically on Shrove Tuesday (Ball Day). Players compete to carry or throw a leather ball through the town and ultimately into a nearby stream, in a rough, largely rule-free contest reminiscent of medieval mob football. It is one of several surviving English Shrovetide ball games that trace a folk tradition dating back centuries.
