Atherstone Ball Game
The Atherstone Ball Game is a traditional, largely rule-free mob football event held annually on Shrove Tuesday in the town of Atherstone, Warwickshire, England, dating back to at least the 12th century. Hundreds of participants compete in the streets to gain possession of a heavy leather ball, with the game ending when time runs out and whoever holds the ball is declared the winner. It is one of Britain's oldest surviving folk football traditions, prized for its chaotic, community-wide participation rather than formal athleticism.
