Road bicycle racing is a competitive cycling discipline held on paved roads, ranging from single-day classics to multi-week stage races like the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, and Vuelta a España. Formats include mass-start road races, individual and team time trials, and criteriums on short closed circuits, with tactics such as drafting, breakaways, and team leadership playing a major role. It is governed internationally by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and is one of the most physically demanding endurance sports.
