Kyūjutsu

Kyūjutsu is the older, combat-oriented Japanese art of archery practiced by samurai warriors before the more spiritually focused kyūdō developed from it in the modern era. It covers techniques for shooting from horseback (yabusame) and on foot in battlefield conditions, prioritizing practical accuracy and speed. Various historical schools (ryūha) preserved differing techniques and traditions, some of which survive today alongside kyūdō.
