Kosen Judo

Kosen judo is a variant of judo that developed at Japanese technical colleges (koto senmon gakko) in the early 20th century, placing heavy emphasis on ne-waza (ground grappling and submission techniques) rather than the throwing-focused standing judo emphasized in mainstream Kodokan competition. It heavily influenced the development of Brazilian jiu-jitsu through practitioners who studied and taught its ground-fighting methods.
