Ice Dance

Ice dance is a discipline of figure skating performed by mixed-gender pairs, emphasizing intricate footwork, rhythm, and close partnership skating over the throws and overhead lifts seen in pairs skating. Competitors perform a rhythm dance and a free dance set to music, judged on technical elements like twizzles and dance lifts as well as artistic interpretation and connection with the music. It has been part of the Winter Olympics since 1976 and is governed internationally by the International Skating Union.
