Free dance is the concluding and highest-weighted segment of an ice dance competition, performed by pairs to music of their own choosing. Skaters combine required elements such as twizzles, lifts, and step sequences with expressive choreography, giving them more creative freedom than the compulsory rhythm dance segment that precedes it.
