Frisian Handball

Frisian handball (Dutch: kaatsen) is a traditional team sport originating in the Friesland region of the Netherlands, in which players use their hands to strike a small hard ball back and forth over a marked field, somewhat resembling a cross between tennis and volleyball but without a net. Teams of three compete in matches on a rectangular field, and the sport has a centuries-old history tied to Frisian cultural identity and festivals. It remains most popular in Friesland, with regional variants also played in Belgium and northern France.
