Canoe Orienteering

Canoe orienteering combines the navigational challenge of traditional orienteering with paddling, requiring competitors to use a map and compass to locate a sequence of checkpoints on lakes, rivers, or interconnected waterways as quickly as possible. Paddlers must plan efficient routes across water, sometimes including portages between bodies of water, making route-finding as important as paddling speed. It is practiced mainly in Scandinavian countries where extensive lake systems suit the sport.
