Bayonet Techniques

Bayonet techniques refer to the combat methods for using a bayonet, a blade fixed to the muzzle of a rifle, in close-quarters fighting such as thrusting, parrying, and butt-striking. Historically a core part of infantry training from the 17th century through the World Wars, bayonet drill was used to instill aggression, discipline, and confidence in soldiers for hand-to-hand combat when ammunition ran out. Today it survives mainly in military ceremonial drill, some armed forces' basic training, and competitive bayonet fencing practiced in a few countries.
