Australian Rules

Australian rules (short for Australian rules football) is a contact team sport played on an oval field with an oval ball, where two teams of 18 aim to score by kicking the ball through goalposts. It is characterized by high leaping marks, long kicks, and continuous play with few stoppages. Invented in Melbourne in the 1850s, it remains one of Australia's most-watched and attended sports via the AFL.
