Compromise Rules

Compromise rules most commonly refers to International Rules Football, a hybrid sport blending Australian rules football and Gaelic football, created so Australian and Irish teams could compete against each other using a blended rulebook. Played in annual test matches between Australia and Ireland since the 1980s, it uses a round ball, elements of both codes' scoring and tackling, and a compromise field and equipment setup. The concept more broadly describes any hybrid ruleset devised to let athletes from two different but related sports compete fairly.
