Cambridge Rules

The Cambridge rules were an early set of standardized regulations for football, first drafted by students at Cambridge University in 1848 and refined over subsequent decades. They played a pivotal role in unifying the many varying local football codes played at English schools and universities, directly informing the laws adopted when the Football Association was founded in 1863. Historians and football fans regard them as a key milestone in the codification of modern association football (soccer).
