Uprock

A stylized, competitive dance form that originated in the Brooklyn hip-hop scene, characterized by aggressive, battle-like movements performed facing an opponent, including mimed weapon moves called 'jerks' or 'burns' synchronized to the music. It predates and influenced breaking (breakdancing), and remains practiced by b-boys and b-girls as both a foundational skill and a standalone battle style within hip-hop dance culture.
