Blues Dance

Blues dance is a family of African American vernacular partner dances that developed alongside blues music, characterized by close embrace, grounded movement, weight sharing, and improvisation in response to the music's slow, soulful rhythms. It shares roots with early jazz and swing dancing and is often danced in dim, intimate social settings called "blues dances" or as part of swing dance events. Modern blues dance communities emphasize musicality, connection between partners, and body movement over set patterns.
