Ringen

Ringen is the German word for wrestling and also refers to the historic tradition of German and Swiss combat wrestling documented in medieval and Renaissance fencing and grappling manuals (Fechtbücher) by masters such as Fabian von Auerswald. It encompassed both unarmed grappling techniques and wrestling used as a foundation for armored and armed combat. Today the term is used both generically for the sport of wrestling and specifically for historical European martial arts reconstruction of these techniques.
