Jogo Do Pau

Jogo do pau, meaning 'stick game,' is a traditional Portuguese martial art involving combat with a long wooden staff, historically used by shepherds and rural fighters for both self-defense and choreographed demonstrations. Practitioners use sweeping strikes, blocks, and footwork patterns that have been passed down through regional schools, particularly in northern Portugal. It has seen a modern revival as both a folkloric performance art and a competitive martial discipline.
