Rattlesnake Round-Up

A rattlesnake round-up is an organized event, historically common in parts of the southern United States such as Texas and Oklahoma, in which large numbers of wild rattlesnakes are captured, gathered, and displayed or sold, often accompanied by carnival-style festivities, skinning demonstrations, and competitions for the largest catch. Originally promoted as pest control and community fundraising, the events have become increasingly controversial due to concerns from ecologists and animal welfare groups about population depletion and cruelty, leading several localities to convert round-ups into catch-and-release or educational "wildlife festivals."
