Schutzhund

Schutzhund (German for "protection dog," now formally rebranded as IGP/IPO in competition circles) is a dog sport that tests a working dog's abilities in tracking, obedience, and protection work. Originally developed in Germany to evaluate German Shepherds for breeding suitability, it involves scent tracking a trail, precise obedience exercises, and controlled bite work against a padded decoy. Enthusiasts, often owners of German Shepherds, Malinois, and other working breeds, pursue it competitively to showcase training and canine temperament.
