Paralympic Powerlifting

Paralympic powerlifting is the sole strength sport on the Paralympic program and consists of a single lift, the bench press, performed by athletes with lower-limb impairments that prevent them from competing in squat or deadlift-based lifting. Competitors lie on a bench and attempt to press as much weight as possible for one repetition, with the highest successful lift determining the winner within their bodyweight category. The event is known for extremely high strength-to-bodyweight ratios, since the seated/lying position lets athletes generate very large pressing forces.
