Mandola

The mandola is a member of the mandolin family, tuned a fifth lower than the mandolin (typically C-G-D-A), giving it a warmer, deeper tone. It has four courses of paired strings played with a pick and is used in mandolin orchestras, Irish and folk music, and occasionally bluegrass to add harmonic depth alongside the higher-pitched mandolin. It is sometimes confused with the octave mandolin, which is tuned an octave below the mandolin instead.
