Kyūdō

Kyūdō, meaning "the way of the bow," is the traditional Japanese martial art of archery, practiced as much for spiritual and meditative discipline as for marksmanship. Practitioners use a long asymmetric bamboo/composite bow (yumi) and follow a precise ceremonial sequence of movements (hassetsu) emphasizing correct form, breathing, and mental composure over simply hitting the target. It is often described as a moving form of Zen practice and is taught with strong emphasis on etiquette and ritual.
