Jack Jumping

Jack jumping is a winter sport that originated among Alaskan miners, in which a rider balances atop a pole with a small round wooden or plastic disk (the "jack") mounted on the bottom, then hops or bounces down a snowy slope. Competitors are judged on speed and distance while trying not to fall off, and the sport is now featured in novelty races at Alaskan ski resorts and winter carnivals.
