Hydroplane Racing

A motorsport in which specially designed boats, called hydroplanes, use hull shapes or hydrofoils to lift most of the hull out of the water at speed, dramatically reducing drag and allowing very high velocities. Races range from small outboard hydroplane classes to the powerful unlimited hydroplanes seen in events like Seattle's Seafair, and the sport draws fans for its speed, noise, and dramatic rooster-tail spray.
