Boat racing is a competitive water sport in which crews or individuals pilot vessels—ranging from rowing shells and sailboats to powerboats and hydroplanes—over a set course to determine the fastest finisher. Formats include sprint races, endurance events like offshore powerboat racing, and prestigious regattas such as the America's Cup. Participants are drawn to the combination of speed, tactics, and mastery of wind or engine power needed to win.
