Ancient Greek Boxing
Ancient Greek boxing, known as pygmachia, was a combat sport included in the ancient Olympic Games starting around 688 BC, in which contestants wrapped their hands and forearms in leather straps (himantes) and fought without weight classes or rounds until one was knocked out or conceded. It was considered one of the most brutal ancient sports, lacking the rest periods and rules that moderate modern boxing.
