Biathlon

Biathlon is a winter sport combining cross-country skiing and rifle shooting, in which athletes ski a course and stop at intervals to shoot at targets from prone or standing positions, incurring time penalties or extra distance for misses. It demands a unique combination of cardiovascular endurance and the ability to steady one's aim and heart rate immediately after intense exertion, and is a mainstay of the Winter Olympics, with roots in Scandinavian military and hunting traditions.
