Competitive Swimming

Competitive swimming is a sport in which athletes race over set distances in pool or open-water settings using regulated strokes such as freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly, timed to fractions of a second. It is contested at levels from age-group club meets to the Olympics, governed internationally by World Aquatics, and often includes relay and individual medley events. Swimmers are drawn to its blend of endurance, technique, and measurable personal-best progress.
