Synchronized Swimming

Synchronized swimming (now officially called artistic swimming) is a hybrid sport combining swimming, dance, and gymnastics in which athletes perform choreographed routines in water, often in duet or team formations, set to music. Competitors are judged on technical merit, synchronization, and artistic impression, requiring exceptional breath control, strength, and flexibility since much of the routine is performed upside down or underwater. It has been an Olympic sport since 1984 and draws participants who enjoy blending athleticism with performance art.
