Chinese Chess
Chinese chess, known as Xiangqi, is a two-player strategy board game played on a 9x10 grid of intersections divided by a 'river,' with each side defending a fortified 'palace' containing the general. Pieces—including the general, advisor, elephant, horse, chariot, cannon, and soldiers—move and capture according to distinct rules, and the goal is to checkmate the opposing general. It is one of the most widely played board games in the world, especially popular in China, Vietnam, and among Chinese diaspora communities, and rewards deep tactical and positional thinking.
