Charleston

The Charleston is a fast, energetic solo or partner dance that emerged in African American communities in the 1920s, taking its name from Charleston, South Carolina. Danced to jazz music, it features swiveling knees, kicks, and syncopated arm movements, and it became a defining symbol of the flapper era and Prohibition-time nightlife.
