Breakdancing

Breakdancing, or breaking, is an athletic style of street dance that originated in the Bronx in the 1970s as part of hip-hop culture, characterized by acrobatic floor work, spins, freezes, and rhythmic footwork performed to breakbeats. Dancers, called b-boys and b-girls, often compete in freestyle battles judged on creativity, musicality, and technical skill. It gained global recognition as a competitive discipline, notably being included as an Olympic sport at the 2024 Paris Games.
