Network Administrator
A Network Administrator manages an organization's day-to-day network operations, configuring and maintaining routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs to keep data flowing securely between offices, data centers, and remote users. The role commonly requires Cisco networking expertise such as CCNA certification, a solid grasp of TCP/IP fundamentals, and use of network monitoring tools to catch outages before they affect users. As companies shift workloads off-premises, many network administrators are also expanding into cloud networking to manage hybrid environments.
Duties & responsibilities
- Configure and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN systems across multiple network locations
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot infrastructure issues to prevent outages and service disruptions
- Install, upgrade, and maintain network equipment at data centers, offices, and remote sites
- Support both wired and wireless network systems including Layer 2 and Layer 3 environments
- Manage network security through firewalls and access controls to protect organizational data
- Administer load balancing and application delivery systems to optimize network traffic and performance
- Support data, video, and voice services across hybrid on-premises and cloud environments
