Summer Biathlon

Summer biathlon is the warm-weather counterpart to winter biathlon, combining cross-country running or roller skiing with rifle shooting at targets, allowing biathletes to train and compete in the off-season. Competitors carry a rifle on their back during the running/skiing legs and stop at shooting ranges to fire at targets from prone and standing positions, incurring penalties (extra distance or time) for misses. It is governed internationally by the International Biathlon Union and appeals to endurance athletes who enjoy combining physical exertion with precision marksmanship.
