Pesäpallo

Pesäpallo, sometimes called Finnish baseball, is Finland's national sport, a bat-and-ball game invented in the 1920s by Lauri "Tahko" Pihkala who adapted elements of baseball and traditional Finnish ball games. It differs from baseball in that the ball is pitched vertically above home plate and base runners move in a zigzag pattern between bases rather than a diamond. The sport has an active professional league, Superpesis, and is played widely in Finnish schools and communities.
