Jeu De Paume

Jeu de paume ("game of the palm") is a French ball game dating to medieval times, originally played by striking a ball with the bare palm of the hand across a net or against walls within an indoor court, later evolving to use gloves and eventually rackets. It is the direct historical ancestor of modern tennis, and surviving jeu de paume courts, including one in Paris now used as an art museum, mark its cultural legacy.
