Human-Powered Aircraft

Aircraft designed to fly using only the muscular power of the pilot, typically by pedaling a propeller through a bicycle-like drivetrain, without any engine or motor. Because human power output is limited, these aircraft are built extremely lightweight with very large wingspans; famous examples include the Gossamer Condor and Gossamer Albatross, which won prizes for the first sustained and cross-Channel human-powered flights.
