Discus

The discus is a heavy lens-shaped disc thrown for distance in track and field athletics, an event with roots in ancient Greece where it was part of the original Olympic pentathlon. Modern throwers spin through a marked circle to build rotational momentum before releasing the discus, aiming for maximum distance within a marked sector. It demands a combination of strength, technique, and timing, and remains a staple event at the Olympics and other athletics competitions.
