Coon Hunting

Coon hunting is the practice of hunting raccoons, traditionally done at night using specially trained scent hounds, such as Treeing Walker Coonhounds or Black and Tan Coonhounds, that track and tree the animal so hunters can locate it by the dogs' distinctive bark. It is especially popular in rural areas of the southeastern and midwestern United States, valued both as a hunting method and as a competitive sport, with organized "coon hunts" judging dogs on tracking and treeing performance. Enthusiasts often prize the bond and skill developed with their hounds as much as the hunt itself.
