Board Track Racing

Board track racing was a form of motorcycle and automobile racing popular in the United States roughly from the 1910s to the early 1930s, held on steeply banked oval tracks constructed from wooden planks, allowing extremely high speeds for the era. It was notorious for its danger, with frequent, often fatal crashes due to splinters, lack of safety barriers, and the tracks' rapid deterioration, earning venues the nickname "murderdromes." The sport declined due to high maintenance costs of wooden tracks and safety concerns, giving way to paved oval racing.
