Banzai Skydiving

Banzai skydiving is an extreme and rare stunt in which a skydiver throws their parachute out of the airplane before jumping themselves, then free-falls to catch up to and retrieve the falling parachute pack in mid-air before deploying it. It originated as a novelty stunt performed by daredevil skydivers, notably popularized in Japan in the 1970s, and carries extremely high risk since a failed retrieval leaves no backup for opening the chute in time. It is practiced by only a small number of highly experienced skydivers seeking an extreme adrenaline challenge beyond standard skydiving.
