Catalan Language

Languages

Catalan is a Romance language spoken by roughly 10 million people, primarily in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and Valencia in Spain, as well as Andorra and parts of France and Italy (Sardinia). It occupies a linguistic position between Spanish and French/Occitan and has its own distinct grammar, vocabulary, and literary tradition dating back to the Middle Ages. Learners are often drawn to it for regional cultural identity, travel, or connections to Catalan-speaking family and communities.
