Radiologic Technologist
A Radiologic Technologist performs diagnostic imaging procedures, primarily radiographic X-ray imaging, to help physicians diagnose injuries and illnesses. Working in hospitals, imaging centers, or urgent care clinics, they position patients correctly, follow strict radiation safety protocols, and manage images through DICOM/PACS systems. Attentive patient care is central to the job, as technologists must put patients at ease while ensuring accurate, safe imaging results.
Duties & responsibilities
- Operate X-ray and imaging equipment to capture diagnostic images for physician interpretation
- Position patients correctly and safely to obtain high-quality radiographic images
- Follow radiation safety protocols and apply appropriate patient shielding techniques
- Prepare patients for imaging procedures and explain what to expect during the exam
- Document imaging findings and patient information in electronic medical record systems
- Assist physicians with fluoroscopic and specialized imaging procedures as needed
- Maintain imaging equipment and ensure it functions properly for clinical use
