Quality Inspector
A Quality Inspector examines products, components, or materials on the production floor, using precision measurement tools and blueprint reading skills to verify conformance to specifications. Working within manufacturing and industrial settings, they apply quality inspection techniques and ISO quality standards to catch defects before products reach customers. This hands-on role demands strong attention to detail and is typically an entry-to-mid-level position within a quality assurance team.
Duties & responsibilities
- Measure components and assemblies using precision tools like micrometers, calipers, and coordinate measuring machines
- Read engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and work instructions to verify specifications
- Identify defects and nonconformances in products and document findings in quality systems
- Inspect materials and components at various production stages to catch issues before assembly or delivery
- Verify compliance with industry standards such as AS9100, ISO 9001, and applicable quality requirements
- Communicate quality findings and concerns to engineering, manufacturing, and production teams
- Complete inspection records and maintain accurate documentation of measurements and test results
