Occupational Therapy Assistant
An occupational therapy assistant (OTA) works under a licensed occupational therapist to help patients regain the skills needed for daily living and work after injury, illness, or disability, in hospitals, rehab centers, schools, or home health settings. Daily work includes leading therapeutic exercise techniques, training patients in the use of adaptive equipment, and following rehabilitation care plans set by the supervising OT, with careful patient documentation in electronic health records (EHR) to track progress. The role requires an associate degree from an accredited OTA program and state licensure.
