Cybersecurity Engineer
A Cybersecurity Engineer designs, builds, and hardens the technical security infrastructure that protects an organization, focusing on network security and cloud security across environments like AWS, Azure, or GCP. They use scripting and automation to streamline detection and response, configure and tune SIEM/SOAR platforms, and often conduct penetration testing to proactively find weaknesses before attackers do. This hands-on engineering role sits within IT security or platform engineering teams and is typically held by technically strong professionals with software or systems engineering backgrounds and security certifications like OSCP or CISSP.
Duties & responsibilities
- Design and build security infrastructure to protect networks, cloud environments, and on-premises systems
- Configure, operate, and tune security tools including firewalls, WAF, EDR, SIEM, and vulnerability management platforms
- Develop automation and infrastructure-as-code using Python, Go, or similar languages to streamline security operations
- Conduct threat hunting, incident response, and penetration testing to identify and remediate security weaknesses
- Manage identity and access controls, data protection, and compliance requirements across the organization
