Cybersecurity Analyst
A Cybersecurity Analyst monitors an organization's networks and systems for threats, using SIEM tools to aggregate logs and alerts and applying threat intelligence to understand emerging attack patterns relevant to the business. They lead or support incident response when breaches or suspicious activity occur, perform vulnerability management to prioritize patching, and maintain baseline network security controls like firewalls and intrusion detection. This role sits within a security operations center (SOC) or IT security team and is typically held by early-to-mid career professionals with a background in IT, networking, or a security certification such as Security+ or CySA+.
Duties & responsibilities
- Monitor network traffic and logs to detect intrusions and suspicious activity
- Analyze security alerts and investigate potential threats and breaches
- Respond to active security incidents by containing and remediating threats
- Assess network vulnerabilities and recommend patching priorities
- Maintain and tune security tools including firewalls and intrusion detection systems
- Coordinate with technical and business teams to strengthen organizational defenses
