Stoolball

Stoolball is an English bat-and-ball game, considered one of the historical antecedents of cricket and rounders, in which a bowler throws a ball at a wicket (traditionally a milking stool) that a batter defends with a bat, while fielders try to get batters out. It dates back to at least medieval times and is still played today, especially in Sussex and southern England, often by women's and mixed community leagues. It's valued for its accessibility and deep connection to English rural heritage.
