Stock Car Racing

Stock car racing is a form of auto racing using production-based vehicles (originally modified 'stock' road cars, now purpose-built race cars resembling them) competing on oval or road courses. NASCAR in the United States is the most prominent example, tracing its roots to Prohibition-era moonshine runners who modified cars for speed and handling. It's a major spectator sport known for close, high-speed pack racing and passionate fan followings.
