Square Dance
Square dance is a folk dance style in which four couples form a square and perform a sequence of steps, turns, and formations called out in real time by a caller, drawing on traditions brought by European settlers and adapted in North America. Common calls include do-si-do, allemande, and promenade, and the dance is often accompanied by live fiddle, banjo, or country-style string band music. It is popular at community gatherings, barn dances, and clubs, valued for its social, participatory nature and the way the caller guides even inexperienced dancers through the patterns.
